Akiba Home was opened in March 2010. It is a response to the need for accommodation for the children and their caregivers in the programme. Akiba Home provides a clean, hygienic environment where the children and their parents/caregivers are given shelter, meals, physical care, play therapy and recreational facilities.
It also provides a comfortable home for the children with their families to minimise costs of transport upcountry, avoid missing of chemotherapy sessions in order to prevent relapse of the illness and provision.
For advanced and long-term cases, we network with other organisations that provide advanced palliative care.
We have just opened up our second supportive care home in Gulu district, Northern Uganda.
